For the Charlotte native Bill Hass, playing a golf game at the Quail Hollow Club it's like going to the park on a family tour. Since his early 8 years of age his father, the veteran Jay Hass took him to play golf at the Club. For the actual leader, we can say that no rounds were more special than the 8-under-par 64 he posted last Thursday and that took him to the leading position at the Carolinas-Laden leader board after the $6.5 million 9th annual Wells Fargo Championship 2011 opening round. Bill Hass is two shots over the 2003 Wells Fargo Champion David Toms and Jonathan Byrd 66. Hass is also three shots over the U.S Open winner Lucas Glover and Pat Perez who share the 4th at 5th under 67.
Hass played a bogey free round with 4 birdies in both at the front and the back 9th; he quoted that's he always had good feeling around this place, making reference of the Quails field. He has taken the course more than 30 times outside of the competitions. This field it's like a second home for him; who lived his early years in Charlotte but now is resident of Greenville S.C. area. The Hass Clan travel often to Quail Hollow and spend lots of time at the place, sometimes participating in the club tournaments like the one made on Thanksgiving, where they gave frozen turkeys for prizes. In 2006 Bill ended tied in the Quails Hollow for the fourth place.

Amazingly played, he made these 8 birdies without bogeys, Hitting 15 of 18 greens when needing only 26 putts. He found some trouble at the difficult 491 yard par 4th ninth. He split the fairway off the tee, but then he pulled his second into the left rough. Then Hass hit a great pitch, making the three-footer and saving the par and keeping his two -stroke lead. Hass suggested that to have "peace of mind" on this place so familiar help it a lot against these rolling dangerous greens that Quail Hollow is known for. Hass brings a confident attitude that only those who know this place as his hand can show.
Bill Hass won two events last year, the Bob Hope Classic and the Viking Classic. His game became stronger at the beginning of the 2011 campaign. On the Hyundai Tournament of Championship, he finished at the 8th place. Lost his title defense at the Bob Hope and shared the 9th at the Farmer's Insurance Open. He finished in the top 15 just once. Former Quail Hollow Champion David toms played a good game; he is also familiar with the tricky field. He had a 218-yard second shot into the wind at the 3rd hole. 228-yard approach at the 4th, 248 tee shot at the par-3 sixth and 230 yards to approach to the 9th. Toms played all those holes 2-under par.
Quail Hollow is not unknown for Jonathan Byrd. He likes this field too and that explains why he always returns every year even if he has missed the cut on six opportunities of seven appearances. Byrd bogeyed the long par-3 sixth hole, but made birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 8, 11, 14, and 17. Byrd quoted that he enjoys playing the course at Quails, but he doesn't play so well there. The Defending Champion Rory McIlroy is playing for the first time in the U.S. since the impressive final at the Masters. He only managed a three-over 75 last Thursday. McIlroy isn't a member of the PGA Tour, but is playing this week on a sponsor's invitation.
