There is less than two weeks to start the Barclays PGA Tour and many of the most notable players who are not yet assigned to start in the playoffs for the FedExCup are anxious to assure their spots.
Among these players are known faces like Padraig Harrington, Camillo Vargas, Ernie Els, Justin Leonard and Tiger Woods. They have their chance this week to get their slot in the Barclays field. This is the first time the Barclays will be held at Plainfield Country Club in Edison this coming August 23-28; the top 125 in the FedEx standings could be there; the days pass faster and the opportunities are less with each day that passes.
As mentioned before, some players worth mentioning are on the FedExCup 125 bubble And this may be what they need to do in their quest to reach the Barclays field. For example, both Camilo Villegas and Ernie Els must have a 15th place finish or two 41st-places finish at least. Tiger Woods requires one 14th – place finish or two 40th-place finish. Padraig Harrington needs a 12th -place finish or two 36th place finish. Justin Leonard just needs one 6th-place finish because he is not in the PGA Championship field. Lois Oosthuizen will do it with a 5th-place or two 17th-place finish and Paul Casey needs a 4th place finish and two14th -place finish.
The Playoff is not the only way to get access in the FedExCup; the players can also improve their positions through the standings on these coming weeks Regular Season games. 49 of the top 50 in the FedExCup current standings are inside the PGA Championship fields and awarding 600 points to the winner. The numbers are quite different for the 2011; it took 380 points to finish the regular season at #125 in 2010 for the FedExCup standings and qualifiers.
This year the Barclay will be one of the biggest events of the PGA Tour. For the Barclays Director Peter Mele, the intrigue for this PGA Tour Regular season is generating a lot of interest in the playoffs; something already proved by the record sales of the tickets on their first try on the Plainfield, so everyone will have a good chance to enjoy it.
