PGA Grand Slam of Golf

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf tournament is a widely known and recognized golf tournament. It is an off season tournament of golf including the contestants of the last four winners of the previously held major championships of men's golf tournament. These four tournaments are the US Open tournament, the British Open Championship, the PGA Championship and the Masters Tournament. The PGA Grand Slam is one of the numerous invitational events for the top notch and professional men golfers that have been taken place after the conclusion of the European Tour and the PGA Tour. The American PGA is the organization of the tournament; however, the prize money does not count towards the money list of the PGA Tour.

Year 1979 resulted as the promotional year for the PGA Grand Slam tournament with observing a short break of few years. This tournament experienced since 1991, a stroke play competition of 2 days and 36 holes. This situation was not included in the year 1998 and 1999, when it was played as match play. The tournament was played as a 1 day and 18 stroke play competition from 1979 to 1990. If more than a major event is won by any player or the invitation of playing is declined by any player, the field of the four men is field by the American PGA with the invitation given to the four major winners who finish with best scores in the previous year's major events.

Earlier, the PGA Grand Slam tournament was played at different golf courses every year, the Koloa's Poipu Bay Golf Course and the Kauai's island in Hawai has become the major destination to play the tournament from the year 1994 to 2006. In Hawai, the tournament was allowed to be telecasted in the prime-time television of America with the live coverage of the tournament due to the different in timings.

The tournament was further moved in 2007 to the Bermuda's Mid Ocean Club. That time, the tournament was played in the mid of October reflecting that the earlier end as the major part of the tournament of the PGA Tour season when the FedEx Cup was introduced. The tournament was remained stay in Bermuda in the year 2009, but was further moved to the golf course of Port Royal.

The current fund prize of the tournament is $1.35 million, out of which $600,000 is rewarded to the player. For some of the competitors who have played for all the year, the prize money may seem lower, but the tournament also guarantees the prize of $200,000 for the person coming in last. The prize money was $1 million from the year 1991 to 2005, out of which, the $400,000 were given to the winner. The money was $1.25 million in the year 2006 with $500,000, going in the pocket of the winner. A 59 was made as a shot in the second round in the tournament in the year 2004 by Phil Mickelson leading the tournament to be finished with an exciting event.
