Funny clothing and charismatic attitude are related to the all time missed Payne Stewart. He was a champion on his career as golfer and also in his personal moments. His life ended abruptly and early, but his memory remains in all the heart of all golfers.
These past weeks, the Payne Stewart Awards was played to commemorate this fallen golfer hero. Everyone remember his colorful suits, his manners at the moments of victory and defeats. This commemorative PGA Tour adds some special features to the ropes. The tournament has "Seven Stewart Traits" dedicated to pay homage to Payne in some way, some of them are as extravagant as wearing colorful clothing or sharing Payne's competitive spirit.
Inspired by Roger Davis, Payne remembered that Davis used to wear plus-two trousers and that make him look different. So he increased the volume of the tad, buying a bunch of baggier plus-four knickers and maximized the look with a peaked cap. Like some kind of amulet or good luck trinket, after changing his look Stewart won his first PGA Tour event, the 1982 Quad Cities Open. His unique style was innovative and even NFL franchises with lots of colors in their uniforms like the Dolphins Aqua made a deal with him to wear their colors on the tours. Payne Stewart became a familiar face even with non-golf fans. all thanks to his pressing game and an extensive wardrobe.
Tom Watson, he knows some things about competitive spirit as he shown in the Payne Stewart Award 2003. He and Jack Nicklaus can say what competitive spirit at Stewart's way is. Watson and Nicklaus were like seen Godzilla versus King Kong in an epic battle during the British Open and the Masters in 1977. Both players are good friends today, but at their primes, they were fearless rivals.
Another important trait to take in detail was his manner of taking a victory. With the fist extended, leaning forward on one leg while screaming along with the fans, as it's shown in the statue dedicated to Payne at the Pinehurst No.2. This was an enthusiastic way to celebrate a win for 15 feet for par, fifteen feet for an 11th career win and fifteen feet for a U.S. Open. In fact, that's the way to celebrate any victory.
Many players have won and honored the Payne Stewart Award since the 2000, each of these golfers has shared and homage each of the traits with those shown by Payne Stewart.
